Where I publish

I submitted a poem to 2Rivers and was rejected. That was my first try at literary publishing. Now, I am waiting to see if a poem I submitted to AGNI will be published, but I don’t think it will be. I gleaned from the wisdom of writers before me that rejection is a part of being a writer, so I don’t take it personally.

I think picking publications that align with my Christian values is important. I will research literary journals and publishing presses that publish Christian-friendly pieces. They don’t have to be Christian journals but the journal should have important values I live by like family values and value for life (so not nihilism or anarchy!).

I have a lot of trauma in my story but my question now is how much am I supposed to share in my writings? I think just enough to communicate that unspeakable acts have happened, but to send the message that despite this, it doesn’t make me less of a good girl or woman and that God still loves me and has good plans for me.

I will meet with a writer who was published by a major press and discuss these things with her. Getting support is so important to have a roadmap for starting out in my new quest to get published and be an author!
